Climate Change Indices

Calculation

To reliably monitor and detect climate change, the indices should contain variations that are caused by climate processes only. There are two aspects to consider when constructing these indices. First, the original daily data should be homogeneous , i.e. be free of not-climate-related variation. Secondly, the method for constructing the indices should not introduce any additional variation .

Software packages for the calculation of the indices can be downloaded from our software page. Data quality control procedure is embedded in all packages. A simple procedure for detecting inhomogeneities in the data was also provided in an older Excel based ClimDex for the purpose of demonstration. Note that a more complicated procedure might be needed for inhomogeneity testing in real applications.
